The Salmon area is home to the Salmon River, one of the few undammed waterways left in America. The river and its forks serve as the only pathways into the Frank Church-River of No Return Wilderness area, the largest single federally designated wilderness in the lower 48. Steelhead and salmon start and end their 900-mile journey to the ocean in this region of Idaho. Nine of Idaho’s big game animals roam the valleys and mountains in this area.
The Salmon Region contains high mountains and wild rivers ranging from 12,514-foot Mount Borah to the Salmon River at around 3,000 feet.
Hunter education course offered in Leadore
Thursday, March 28, 2024 - 11:09 AM MDTAn instructor-led hunter education course will be held in Leadore April 29 & 30, May 1 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. each evening, May 3 from 3 to 6 p.m., and May 4 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The course will be held at the Leadore School and is designed for students ages 9 and older. Space is limited and advanced registration is required by going online or by visiting the Fish and Game office in Salmon at 99 Highway 93 North.
River otter trapping season closed in Salmon Region
Thursday, March 28, 2024 - 10:03 AM MDTIdaho Fish and Game was notified that the Salmon Region's limit of 15 river otters was met on March 26. The otter trapping season for the entire region closes 72 hours after the harvest quota has been met. As a result, the otter season for the Salmon Region closes at 11:59 p.m. on March 29.
Hayden and Kids Creek ponds to be stocked in March
Tuesday, February 27, 2024 - 8:26 AM MSTIdaho Department of Fish and Game will stock 950 rainbow trout in the 10 to 12-inch range at two area fishing holes March 18-22. Hayden Creek Pond will receive 650 and Kid's Creek Pond will receive 300.
Hunter and trapper education courses coming up in Salmon

Two courses will be held in Salmon during March and are designed for anyone 9 years of age or older. A trapper education course will be held Saturday, March 9 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. A hunter education course is planned March 18-21 from 5 to 7 p.m. each evening, and March 22 from 3 to 7 p.m. Space is limited and advanced registration is required by going online or by visiting any Fish and Game office.

F&G seeking information on bull elk killed in Pahsimeroi Valley
Tuesday, January 2, 2024 - 1:25 PM MSTIdaho Fish and Game is seeking information about a bull elk shot and left to waste near May, Idaho in the Pahsimeroi Vally. The 5-point bull elk was found on private land east of Hooper Lane about 250 yards east of the Pahsimeroi River. The elk was thought to have been shot between Sunday, Dec. 24 and Wednesday, Dec. 27, and the entire carcass was left to waste. Fishing dock to be replaced at Kid’s Creek Pond
Monday, November 6, 2023 - 12:28 PM MSTAnglers of Kid’s Creek Pond in Salmon will soon have a new fishing dock to enjoy, as Fish and Game will replace the dock from Nov. 7-21. The area will remain open for day use, but users are asked to respect the small construction area closure near the existing dock.
