About the position
Idaho Department of Fish and Game is currently seeking one 4-month Fisheries Biological Aide (non-benefited) to work at the Niagara Springs Fish Hatchery in Wendell, ID. Ideal start date is 5/6/2024.
General Information
Niagara Springs Fish Hatchery is owned and funded by Idaho Power Company and is operated by the Idaho Department of Fish and Game. The hatchery is responsible for the production of 1.8 million juvenile Summer A-run Steelhead for the Salmon and Snake rivers annually, and the production of 2,000 juvenile White Sturgeon for the Snake River annually.
Incumbents must, with or without reasonable accommodations, be able to work a variable schedule under adverse weather conditions, and lift and carry/pack up to 50 lbs.

Qualifications
Previous work experience and/or education in Aquaculture, Natural Resources or Biological Science is preferred but not mandatory. Candidates with previous fish hatchery experience will be given preference. Candidates will need mechanical experience/skills sufficient enough to operate small machinery, pumps, lawn care equipment and perform general maintenance. Must be able to handle responsibility and work independently. Applicants should be detail oriented, self-motivated, and safety conscious. Applicant will be required to work outdoors in and around water. Irregular work schedules are frequent; weekend, holiday and evening work will be required. Applicant must possess a valid driver’s license.
Responsibilities
Perform fish culture duties at a large Steelhead production hatchery, and White Sturgeon facility. Fish culture responsibilities will include weighing fish feed, hand feeding fish, sweeping and collecting mortality on 38 indoor vats, operating an automated feed delivery system and 3 traveling bridges on 19 outdoor raceways, sample counts, raceway pressure washing, maintaining hatchery grounds and an Idaho Power day park. Other responsibilities will include assisting permanent staff in the implementation of the day to day fish culture activities at the hatchery, data entry, and helping with routine hatchery duties, and assisting other hatcheries when needed.
