About the position

The Clearwater Region is seeking multiple temporary Fishery Technicians to work on the Idaho Steelhead Monitoring and Evaluation Study.

  • One 8-month benefited position: May– early November (Dates flexible)
Qualifications
It’s preferred that applicants have a B.S. degree in fisheries or related field, or the equivalent from job experience and training. Individuals with experience operating screw traps, weirs, PIT tagging, collecting and organizing biological data from both adult and juvenile salmonids will be given preference. Demonstration of good computer and data management skills are required. Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license. Incumbents must with or without reasonable accommodations be able to work a variable schedule under adverse weather conditions, lift and carry/pack up to 60 lbs.
Responsibilities
Operating rotary screw traps and maintaining an adult fish weir under variable weather conditions. The technicians are expected to handle and PIT tag juvenile salmonids, collect biological data from juvenile and adult steelhead, maintain field equipment, and manage data. Other potential duties include collecting eDNA samples and conducting Chinook and bull trout spawning ground surveys to identify redds and record biological data from carcasses.
These are field positions based out of the Lewiston regional office. Field work will be conducted remotely at the study sites in Idaho on Fish Creek (Lochsa River drainage) about 45 miles east of Kooskia and the Lochsa River at Lowell. Housing and food will be provided during the work shift, and off-duty housing is also available. The working schedule is highly variable and includes weekends and holidays.
