About the position

Craig Mountain WMA is looking for a highly motivated individual to assist in maintaining our Wapshilla Ranch administrative facility. This facility is a remote homestead along the Lower Salmon River located approximately 65 miles (3-4 hours) south of Lewiston, Idaho.

 

Dates Needed: May – September

30-40 hrs/ week

Food stipend and housing provided.

General Information
The selected applicant will conduct facility grounds maintenance on Wapshilla Ranch which is located on Idaho Fish and Game’s (IDFG) Craig Mountain Wildlife Management Area (CMWMA). The CMWMA south of Lewiston, Idaho is flanked by the Snake River on the west and the Salmon River on the east and encompasses approximately 120,000 acres. The Wapshilla Ranch is near the southern end of the WMA and approximately ¼ mile from the Salmon River. Access to Wapshilla Ranch is along primitive roads and takes about 3 hours from Lewiston.
Qualifications
The applicant must demonstrate work experience and/or personality traits that lead the employer to believe they are willing to work diligently and independently with limited supervision. The applicant must be comfortable with living and working in a remote location. The applicant must be willing to spray noxious weeds with chemical treatments. Prior experience with spraying noxious weeds is preferred but not required. Training will be provided.

Experience with performing tasks related to facility and grounds maintenance involving hand tools, power tools, small and heavy machinery, general farm, and garden equipment, fencing and irrigation applications. Applicant must possess the ability to interact with the public in a professional, safe, and courteous manner.

Other preferred qualifications include:
• General carpentry skills.
• Plant identification skills
• Good communication skills with supervisor
• Ability to handle and overcome emergency situations in a timely and collected manner.
• Basic records keeping of data

Applicants will be given additional consideration if they:
• Possess an Herbicide Applicators License
• Posses groundskeeping or landscaping experience

Minimum Qualification Specialty: (required for the current opening)

• Valid driver’s license
Responsibilities
Primary responsibilities are maintaining the historic ranch house, orchard, and surrounding buildings, mowing the air strip and lawn, and equipment maintenance. The technician must serve as an Idaho Department of Fish and Game liaison interacting with the public, other visitors, and the IDFG regional office.

This position is located in a remote field location, requiring person(s) to work/live without daily supervision. Applicants need to be highly self-motivated, independent, and good communicators as well as have the basic skills to function effectively, efficiently, and safely in a remote environment.
